Hi Severin,

I think that for yourself, and for other, you can run a test with 
default installation with ext3, run pveperf, save results, then 
reinstall with 'linux ext4', run again pveperf, then try with 'linux 
xfs' (don't know if it is possible), run pveperf again, and publish here 
the results. It could be interesting...

For something more consistent, you can run the same tests as Udo, with 
Bonnie++ or other tools.

But for ext4, I don't think there is something to track down. It is 
certainly how this filesystem behaves for such a system. Perhaps we have 
to wait for enhancements on the ext4 filesystem. It seems the mount 
option nodelalloc can make some difference...

The problem with ext3 is that filesystem check can be very long to run 
on big file systems with many data...
