Yeah, we migrated a bunch of VMWare images, what we finally found worked 
best was:

- remove the vmware guest tools
- Export the VMS to OVF on an attached external USB drive using the 
vmWare client

- convert the vmdk to qcow2 using qemu-img

- copy into proxmox

- initially add the qcow image as ide
- add a dummy virtio drive

- boot, install spice-guest tools, reboot as needed

- remove the dummy
- re-add actual image as virtio

- boot, allow updates to happen


Its a tedious and *slow* process, but it works.
