Forgot to mention, you may also need the attached patch on the noVNC side.
By default it only supports the legacy vnc authentication with a 
character limit, and not vencrypt plain.

(patch is currently hard coded to username root at pam and can be done 
cleaner, so didn't submit it upstream. more for testing purposes only.)
