I believe you can just run something like:

zfs rename IMAGEPOOL/vm-100-disk-0 IMAGEPOOL/vm-101-disk-0

and it'll have the same effect as renaming volume files? (obviously, 
replace IMAGEPOOL and the VM IDs as appropriate.)
