[PVE-User] Proxmox 5 to root on ZFS

I'd say your better off with one big pool and do a Raidz1, so you have 3
drives of storage and 1 parity drive.

There's a trick you can do with the Debian rescue, to be able to use any
ISO installer you want without needing to order the silly priced KVM.

If you run the following commands, you can then use VNC viewer to
connect in and do the graphical installer.
Note: you might need to change the drives bit if you've got less or more
drives.

I got the idea from here
https://rinaldojonathan.com/en/cara-buat-virtual-kvm-di-server-ovh-kimsufi-soyoustart/

    wget https://youriso.com/youriso.iso -O /tmp/install.iso

    qemu-system-x86_64 -net nic -net user,hostfwd=tcp::2222-:22 -m
    20240M -localtime -enable-kvm \
    -drive file=/dev/sda,if=virtio \
    -drive file=/dev/sdb,if=virtio \
    -drive file=/dev/sdc,if=virtio \
    -cdrom /tmp/install.iso  \
-vnc 0.0.0.0:0 -boot d -smp threads=7 -cpu host

Thanks both for quickly answering my message.
If you want to use KVM in soyoustart you need to pay. They offer pretested Proxmox templates so I used their default Proxmox template with LVM since they don´t have ZFS yet (maybe that will change in the near future).
I asked about it would be worth in case of perfomance, but If you say I am fine with OS running on LVM RAID1 and keep other partitions with ZFS, It´s fine with me.
My idea is to create a second pool for the 2 SATA drives so I can run some VMs separating the OS on the SSD ZFS pool and the data of the VM on the SATA ZFS pool.
Thanks!
Miguel

 Hey,

I've not long setup 2 OVH (SoYouStart) Servers myself, with Fully
encrypted ZFS with Proxmox.
I think the best approach personally is to reinstall either using
proxmox installer ISO via KVM. Then you can install with ZFS as you
want. Then you can setup RAIDZ1 etc, allowing for one disk failure.

If you want ZFS and full disk encryption, then its a much longer process
but doable. See links below.

Is there a reason you didn't use the KVM and install from ISO to start
with?

I followed these two guides: (tweaked bits here and there though)
