IMHO there exists only two choices for storage system. Either Ceph or
ZFS - on a solaris based OS (most stable an highest performance
combined with the by far best iSCSI implementation).
The choice can be nailed down to:
1) At least 3 storage servers: Ceph
2) 1 (or 2) storage servers: Solaris + ZFS
Also note that to have reasonably performance with Ceph requires a lot
of disks (6 per storage server as a minimum)
PS. Above recommendation is for an enterprise setup.
