Thanks Eneko, much appreciated

I've found a tool kit which can remove the rootkit - RougeKiller, does the job 
when just about everything else couldn't eve find. Best of all it doesn't even 
need net access.

So I can 

- make an iso containing it and the mbam installer.

- Run the VM up in a private vlan

- attach the iso and run RougeKiller.

- Restart in bridged mode

- run the mbam installer and update
