selfimage is not safe to convert online and you have write occuring on the disk.

Hi, 

for the record, I use disk2vhd tool from microsoft, It do live images (vhd format) using VSS. 


(just need to convert with qemu-img)

It's works with command bellow: 



qemu-img convert HD.vhd -O qcow2 /var/lib/vz/images/201/vm-201-disk-1.qcow2

why don't you try to boot from win2k8 dvd and try to fix mbr or try to see if data is there?
