Well - ist this not of interest to discuss? Obviously there are some 
preconditions to enable snapshots for /var/lib/vz. And of course the 
first is that there is enough space left in volume group to create the 
snapshot.

Next question would be what happens if there already is a snapshot - 
does this prevent vzdump from creating another snapshot?

Any other ideas about how to solve the original question?
