[PVE-User] I thought Proxmox VE was free?

I really like this discussion. Seems that a lot of competitors becoming scared about the features of Proxmox VE and free software in general.

Also telling that solutions like Hyper-V are "free" or "much cheaper" is quite amusing.

I totally Dietmar,

However, you're preaching to the choir, we all here KNOW this great product is free, and we have donated $$ to help further the development.

I think many of those guys on Spiceworks are heavily invested in VMware and Hyper-V. When we mention Proxmox, they can't wrap their heads around the fact that such a product can be free, so they do their best to twist every bit of logical reasoning they can.

If someone could just add one single statement on the subscription page, this will all go away, and you will see a spike in the downloading of Proxmox VE and possibly the Mail gateway.

What they are alluding to on Spiceworks is that the cost of Proxmox VE as being

free is not prominent enough to warrant belief.

Here is what the overall sentiment is:

"...the wiki is written by volunteers or not kept up to date.

That is complete nonsense. We monitor and update the wiki.

The only place that I

can find to download ProxMox VE says that you have to check the support site

to deploy and the support site says that you must be licensed. "

'sotware license' and 'support' are different things.

Maybe a few wording changes on the subscription page, to restate that

"Proxmox is completely free to use." since that is the page they are referring to.

Proxmox VE is licensed under GPL/AGPL. That is one of the most used software licenses.

Please read the license carefully instead.
