May I suggest a monitoring solution line Nagios / Zabbix. Or perhaps 
even the appliance from Proxmox themselves: 
http://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Zenoss

It can warn you when something happens you do not want to happen. (when 
configured correctly ofcourse)
