So please can you try to debug the init script? Also try to start the daemon manually to test whats wrong (ksmtuned)

What is the output of:
# ls /sys/kernel/mm/ksm/
And, yes, "test -x $prox || exit 0" is a bug - will fix it.

Hi Dietmar,
It doesn't appear to start or give any output at all.
vm0:/var/log# ps aux | grep ksm
root 54 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? SN Dec28 0:00 [ksmd]
root 15063 0.0 0.0 3880 640 pts/1 S+ 08:32 0:00 grep ksm
vm0:/var/log# /etc/init.d/ksmtuned start
vm0:/var/log# /etc/init.d/ksmtuned status
vm0:/var/log# ps aux | grep ksm
root 54 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? SN Dec28 0:00 [ksmd]
root 15069 0.0 0.0 3880 640 pts/1 S+ 08:32 0:00 grep ksm
vm0:/var/log#
/etc/init.d/ksmtuned Line 42:
test -x $prox || exit 0
I am guessing this should be:
test -x $prog || exit 0
I'm have skimmed over the reset but nothing is popping out at me. I have tested with the above change, and it still does nothing.
It doesn't appear to log any failures either.
Thanks again,
-
Fred

is the ksm control daemon running ('ksmtuned')?, If not, start with:
# /etc/init.d/ksmtuned start

As an additional note, I am running 8 VMs on this box. 4x Ubuntu 9.10 Server, 3x Windows Server 2003, and 1x Windows XP.

Hi Dietmar,
That doesn't appear to be the issue:

Anything else I should try checking out?
Thanks,

KSM only starts when you use more than half of your physical memory.

I have just started testing KSM and it doesn't appear to be working on my server. ( 0 shared pages )
I have verified that the kernel is configured to boot with the option enabled, and I show the ksmd process running.
vm0:/# pveversion -v
pve-manager: 1.5-1 (pve-manager/1.5/4561)
running kernel: 2.6.32-1-pve
proxmox-ve-2.6.32: 1.5-2
pve-kernel-2.6.32-1-pve: 2.6.32-2
pve-kernel-2.6.24-9-pve: 2.6.24-18
pve-kernel-2.6.24-8-pve: 2.6.24-16
qemu-server: 1.1-10
pve-firmware: 1.0-2
libpve-storage-perl: 1.0-6
vncterm: 0.9-2
vzctl: 3.0.23-1pve3
vzdump: 1.2-5
vzprocps: 2.0.11-1dso2
vzquota: 3.0.11-1
pve-qemu-kvm: 0.11.1-1
ksm-control-daemon: 1.0-1
Any ideas of what I might need to do to get it working?
Thanks,
Fred
