Honestly, I would like to have a text representation for those 
network graphics. I tried to use graphviz (dot), and results looks
quite promising so far. I attached a file for testing. You can
generate the svg using:

# dot filename.dot -T svg -o filename.svg

What do you think about such approach? Should be even possible to 
automatically translate /etc/network/interfaces into such graphic ;-)
