That's a really good link! Good summary.

Basically it, allows you to add network virtualization overlay with vxlan
tunnels and external network connectivity via bgp with no single point of
failure.

I do like the idea of having plugins..

sdn controller

They are a lot of proprietary virtual switchs, maybe in the future it could
be great to have some kind
of plugins, like for storage. so users could add their own plugins if they
want it ?
