Maybe in general it is fine but I have seen a few examples after I have
moved the disk online to LVM that the resulting disk was either
unbootable or in other ways turned out to be fobar.

The little I have added of wiping the partition table before lvremove
seems to avoid this.

Yes, this is the scare part. Ghost in the machine;-)
