if you create clones manually, aren't you also responsible for cleaning
them up / unprotecting the parent snapshots when deleting the last
clone?

I don't have a very good feeling when auto-deleting snapshots that were
protected by the user/admin. On the other hand, ceph prevents us from
unprotecting a snapshot that is still in use as parent of a clone.. But
who knows, maybe some users used protection as a "safeguard" against
deletion by PVE ;)
