only other possiblity could by qemu-nbd with librbd.
But that seem complex.
krbd is faster than librbd anyway (use 50% less cpu)
the only thin is that krbd take more time to catchup last ceph features.
(but kernel 4.1 is really recent, so it support all hammer feature)
