I'm not sure but maybe it could be possible to use blockdev-add to add the unused disk inside qemu
(without exposing it inside the guest with device_add).
Like this, maybe it could be possibly work.

(because disk sync will delete snasphots)

I didn't known about the blk=> option in qmp migrate.
It's already for some time. I were doing migrations with blk a two years ago :)
