but 4.7.4 and 4.7.2 should not make a difference. I have been running
my own compiled kernels using gcc-4.7 (4.7.4) from Debian Sid for a long
time without problems.

It does. Try the following:
objdump -s -j .comment linux-2.6-3.10.0/vmlinux.o
