Indeed, yes, I think it should be ok. (I'll look to to implemented that in nexenta).

I have also see that a "name" property exist on a zvol.(more/less a description).I'll dig on that if it can be usefull.

I talk about 'template volumes' (base images) here. 

But yes, you can use a 'base image' in multiple VM templates.
