[pve-devel] ceph 0.56 is coming. do we need to keep compatibility with 0.48 ?

To no! My production cluster is already running 0.56.

I already have patches for that - but they're short ;-)

I would say dropping support for old version does not harm. Ceph itself 
recommands upgrading.
