What I'm not sure, it's that in proxmox gui, the option "default (no cache)" don't pass any parameter to qemu drive parameter command line.
But qemu doc say that default cache mode was writethrough before qemu 1.2 ...

So it was an error in proxmox gui ?

AFAIR that is why we added 'cache=none' in the past
