Why do you mean by major/minor device number ?


we can also try to test if

/sys/block/sdXXX/device/scsi_device

exist


/dev/disk/by-id/scsi-XXXX are symlink to /dev/sdX

That test does not look correct. /dev/disk/ can point to any block device, not only scsi. 

Maybe we can just test the major/minor device number instead?
