finally i found some thing regarding this error when i install "Evolution version" of windows 2008 it works fine. but when i install the product key then this black screen appears. and it stops at black screen when system boots up and this is perhaps the main reason that i can not migrate 2008 machines. because they got the product key in them. any idea?<div>

    I never tried this procedure with a 2008 R2 machine, only 2003 R2.
    So there is perhaps some gotchas here ? The proxmox wiki describes
    only the procedure for 2003....<br>

    You should perhaps try the procedure that has been tested by Ernst
    Holger and Martin Maurer, that is use the vmware backup tool to
    backup to a shared storage, then use vzrestore, to restore the VM on
    Proxmox ? But I don't know if you have the full set of ESX tools.
    With ESXi, you don't have a backup option...<br>

                  raw image file. I don't know if the problem lies here.
                  Obviously, If you created first a VM with qcow2 file

                  If the disk is IDE (and it must), you have to apply
                  first the ide reg patch (mergeide), because your HD

                                  program from Vmware, to store the
                                  backup to a network share (NFS...),
                                  then use the backup program from
                                  proxmox, and the function 'restore',
                                  to restore the VM on Proxmox. Martin
                                  Maurer tested it and agreed it was the
                                  easiest solution.<br>

                                  For the growable image file, it seems
                                  it is possible to convert it with

                                                  - Convert it with

                                                  file onto the device<br>
