finally i found some thing regarding this error when i install "Evolution version" of windows 2008 it works fine. but when i install the product key then this black screen appears. and it stops at black screen when system boots up and this is perhaps the main reason that i can not migrate 2008 machines. because they got the product key in them. any idea?

I never tried this procedure with a 2008 R2 machine, only 2003 R2.
So there is perhaps some gotchas here ? The proxmox wiki describes
only the procedure for 2003....

You should perhaps try the procedure that has been tested by Ernst
Holger and Martin Maurer, that is use the vmware backup tool to
backup to a shared storage, then use vzrestore, to restore the VM on
Proxmox ? But I don't know if you have the full set of ESX tools.
With ESXi, you don't have a backup option...
Why did you convert your image to qcow2 ? I always use

Obviously, If you created first a VM with qcow2 file

I would create a VM with raw files...
If the disk is IDE (and it must), you have to apply
first the ide reg patch (mergeide), because your HD
was certainly SCSI within vmware.... See :
Hi Muhammad,

See a recent thread on this list
'Vmware to Proxmox migration" and
especially the answer from Ernst
Holger. He meant to use the backup
program from Vmware, to store the
backup to a network share (NFS...),
then use the backup program from
proxmox, and the function 'restore',
to restore the VM on Proxmox. Martin
Maurer tested it and agreed it was the
easiest solution.

For the growable image file, it seems
it is possible to convert it with
vmware vdisk-manager. See for example
this thread :
Hi,

I would suggest the
following:

- Export the image of
the VMWare VM using
VMWare stuff
- Convert it with
qemu-img
- qemu-img
convert -O raw
input_disk output_disk
- d the output_disk
file onto the device

I had to do this on
some VMs which were
exhibiting the same
black screen
you're getting.

Hope this helps.
