Hello Stéphane, Bruce.

I realize I'm pulling a pretty old thread out of the blue, but I've just
setup zfs here and started running into the same issue on an up to date
system, so I assume nothing like this got merged.

I wasn't able to find any follow-up after the "leaving it to you"
message here, was there something I missed?


In particular I agree I don't understand why zfs just doesn't account
for the arc cache in buffer/cache as there are plenty of tools that
expect this to work, but I guess that's just a side effect of doing
their own memory management in the SPL and it's quite unlikely to see
that change now (tl;dr: it's "considered" but nobody working on it for
years):

That issue turned up a couple of knobs but it's a waste to just leave
the memory unused.

(If I find time to have a proper look I'd look at doing it properly in
zfs first, but wanted to check I didn't miss something here first)
